Steam Powered Candle

December 20, 2007

An ingenious little project for those who want to build steampunk-type projects but don’t know where to start.  Baby steps, man, baby steps…

Like Everything I Can’t Understand…

December 18, 2007

nanacacrashguy.pngLook, I understand Nanaca Crash is Japanese and that should be enough. But something keeps me coming back to this little head scratcher. I mean what is it? Flash Game? Check. Anime? Got it. Violent? Yes, but so casually indifferent. Skill Based? Err, I don’t… I mean I’m not sure? Humorous? I think it takes itself very seriously, but this seems like it ought to be humor… On top of that, the instructions are in Japanese, so I don’t know what I’m doing. My high score is like, a mile or so…

Noodles and Strife and Physics

OK, Not really a lot of strife, but noodles? This guy has them. I know it’s an excerpt from a science program, to illustrate matter and atomic size, but I really want noodles now!

I have the seen the Future and it is Chairs

December 17, 2007

This is so completely awesome, and I’m so thoroughly dorked about about it, that I can barely type. Less so than usual, even. This little video is the demonstration of someone’s grad design project and the similarities to George Lucas are stunning.

What, wait? Lucas? Chairs?

Hold on there, pardner, I’ll ’splain mahself. Lucas’ grad project was THX1138, albeit in a rudimentary form. And like that seminal, futuristic tale, this video shows us: technology seamlessly blended into our environment, artificial intelligence, the vision of the future as one of conformity and obedience, large yellow numerals, an efficient and quiet indoor world. I’m sure that I could think of more similarities, but just let me say that the above video has no degenerat, inbred tunnel dwellers. Score!

Poached from neatorama.

Happy Holidays!

A little something to bring out the holiday spirit in all of us…

Sitting in Mombasa, in a Barroom, Drinking Gin…

December 4, 2007

Now, if you have listened to the lamentably late Warren Zevon as much as I have, it’s a pretty safe bet that you have been enchanted by the woozy nostalgia of Warren’s Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner. The song is actually inspired from Warren’s experiences, hanging out in a bar that used to hang out at that was run by an ex-mercenary. A lot of his songs have this quality, of revolution and moral ambiguousness. Enter this thing, a bar made from the sister plane of the one involved in the Iran-Contra scandal. Makes me want to put on a vest covered in patches and drink drinks.
